Last post on the Lonestar got me thinking, what would you drive if you were a trucker? I’d think I’d take either a Western Star 5700XE
Or a Volvo VNL780

I personally prefer the European Volvo interiors though.
So clean, so simple, so Swedish, so Volvo.

I agree. I’m curious about the remote resting in the tray, hmm.

We did at one point though, as the Freightliner Argosy.

Kenworth C500 8x8 Dual Steer. Or tridem dual steer. Because. Or the 953, 963, 984, 993. All off-road oilfield or severe service. And some have 4spd aux boxes, so three shifters. Which is awesome.
On road? Whatever the quietest truck is (new Pete or Volvo most likely) with the Eaton Autoshift and an ISX. And the high 72" sleeper.

The first time I saw one of those LoneStars, I wondered what a train was doing on the road.

A Tatra T815 with Mad Max “The War Rig” trim for the weekend.
A Volvo VNX 630 for the daily.
A Oshkosh HET M1070, because you never know when you need to pull multiple houses off their foundation’s and take them off road to prove a point to your annoying neighbors.

As I am an odd and quirky Canadian with a taste for nostalgia...

Freightliner Coronado glider with a pre-2003 Detroit D60 so I don’t have to use DEF. I know guys with that setup that average 7mpg, which is pretty good.

Some sort of Volvo with a sleeper cab.
![]() 01/24/2016 at 21:22 |

Volvo Globetrotter XXL
Volkswagen/MAN Constellation

Either of these would be fine:

Forget the trucks... I’ll take one of these.

My little brother drove truck for a number of years and always spoke highly of the Volvos he had, (less so of a couple Freightliners...) That life is tough on the body, but you get to see a lot of the country.

We never got that hideous chrome thing in the states though, that was a South American special or something. We got this far more tasteful version.
Although if this source is correct, you can still get one as a glider if you like...

I dunno, probably that Volvo truck that can push its own trailer backwards.

Interestingly that’s a rhd one. They’re sold in Australia or NZ for some reason.

As it happens you can get the same dash on some models of both the North American and rest of the world Volvos. The only obvious difference is the handbrake.

A European cab over. Preferably a Scania.
